But how would I actually go analyze the stock, to make my own decision, as you always advise? I am curious to know: why should we be so confident that Bitcoin’s scarcity (21,000,000 coins) will continue to drive up the price over time when there are thousands of other cryptocurrencies in the market that essentially serve similar purposes to Bitcoin (i.e. store of value)? Litecoin is a great example: it’s been around almost as long as Bitcoin, operates very similarly, and also has a capped supply of 84,000,000 coins. When the Bitcoin shortage really starts to hit hard, what’s to stop Litecoin (and others) from inflating the supply?

    1. I thought the people who control the protocol can do anything they want. If they want to change it, so more bitcoin can be made, they can do so, right? Just like the dollar was suddenly no longer backed by gold when it was no longer convenient. If there is disagreement, you just do a fork like with bitcoin cash, right? No need for any other cryptocurrencies.
