Online Trading Academy's Merlin Rothfeld reviews candlestick charts. Developed in the 18th century, Japanese Candlesticks were used to track the price of rice futures. They offered a glimpse of the battle between buyers and sellers and gave traders who used them a competitive advantage. Centuries later, Candlestick charts are a staple for technical analysis. In this webinar, we will look at a wide variety of candlestick formations and help you understand the psychology behind their structure and how they represent the continual struggle between bears and bulls in the marketplace.

Merlin’s so awesome. What a great instructor as are everyone else on that staff.
Thank you Grego!
Great video, super clear and was A LOT easier to understand than other Youtube trading videos regarding Candlesticks. Keep it up, would love to see more quality and helpful content.
-Just started my trading career two weeks ago
Thank you Steven! Good luck in your trading journey! Let me know if there any other topics you want covered
Only 12 minutes in and this is already the best explained video I’ve watched on candlesticks. It is really helpful for a beginner such as myself. thanks
Thank you WD! glad you liked it!
Note to myself: Individual candles discussion starts at 6:19.
The preceding 6 minutes are useful, but can be skipped while revising the actual candle patterns.

Hi, found this video very useful. I assume there is a video on the supply and demand theory you mentioned? I could not find it and I did not quite follow what an area of demand or supply looks like? I would guess it is maybe looking at the volume of trades currently compared to the amount of shares available but if anyone could link me to a video or explain I would appreciate it. I am new to this but finding it very interesting and exciting. Great video 👍
Wow! Thanks for such great explanations. I feel like I can really follow candlestick conversations now.
Thank you Chanisha! Glad you found it beneficial!
Great video! Very understandable!
By any chance will you do a video about demand and supply zones?
Thank you Dan. I Believe there are a couple supply & Demand video’s on the Online Trading Academy YouTube channel
Brilliant for beginners, so easily explained
Great session with a very strong instructor.
Most newbies fail simply because they don’t understand how the market works in general or in particular how the market relates to stock or currency pair they entering. If a retail trades doesn’t grasp what the market makers are doing and when they are doing it, the greatest strategy in the world will fall. For new traders the markets are like entering an F1 race before you’ve passed your drivers license test. I am a beginner I never believe I made $30,000 in just 1 week from trading and with the market. an expert financial analysis and he made me learn to read and understand the language of price action. He guides me with the exact time frame to trade and now I just received me first withdrawals of $30k in my bank account today I’m very happy, my advice is for you to contact him he will guide you perfectly well, and thank me later, I guess this is a good way to show my heartfelt appreciation for literally breaking the chain of my financial debit when I needed it most, you can contact him on his email hear.

Appreciate the elaboration. Supply zone? Demand zone? How do you determine these zones?

Very Nice!! Thank You soooo much.
Wow. Someone finally explained the candlesticks to me. I feel like I suddenly have the ability to read a foreign language. Thank you so much for making this video!
@Online Trading Academy Oh, didn’t know we’re going for realism in charts. Thats a new type of cope. Especially when candles come in all colors, you racist! lol
@Online Trading Academy I have yet to see any black and white candlesticks in any market screen I have seen. I believe those are the original candlesticks, but not the accepted norm anymore. I will stick to the red and green sticks because that is all i see anywhere I go. If I am incorrect, please correct me with some details, thank you.

@Online Trading Academy LOL. Underappreciated reply. I once played snooker with someone colour blind, and it was worthy of a sketch. He potted the pink instead of a red, the brown instead of a red, and I think a blue instead of green as well. That was an interesting few hours I’ll never forget.
thank you very much for this, been trading for a month and I’m getting lost at what to look at. This built a solid ground for me I will definitely watch it again
Glad it helped!
For any beginner trader, this is THE lesson to really understand candles in the stock charts! Feel like I’m on a whole other level of understanding now.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the video. You put things very well.
I have a question. @23m00s: You mentioned supply-demand theory and suggested using it together with the candle stick chart to strengthen your assumption behind the chart. My question is: Does supply-demand work independently with the candle stick chart? If yes, then the using them together make sense. If no, meaning the have some cause-effect relationship (or a certain level of correlation, or both), then using them together to strengthen the assumption does not make sense.
My thinking is that they work independently. Higher demand/supply is like you have more data points in an analysis. More data points mean you can confirm your hypothesis better.
Can I have your comment? Thanks.
Nice video, I just noticed this yes no one is debt-free, there is always a disadvantage in every advantage, so just remain focused on your goal, I can boast of lots I have made from trading stocks and Forex markets, though the risk in it too, keep your goals and yes work towards it…
Thanks so much, Gracias!!

One of the best videos explaining candlesticks I have come across. This is where it all began for me. Thanks Merlin !
MY portfolio has good companies, however they have been red all this year. This is my first year of investing and have been down 35% in the March/April sell off, and now down 17% in this sell off. I work hard for my money, so investing is making me nervous and sad. I don’t know if I should sell everything or just sit and wait.
Amazing i will do that now . thank you for sharing
If by good company you mean good fundamentals and trading at a low or fair valuation then you will be fine long term.
Sit and wait…investing is a long game.
